Banff National Park

Banff National Park is Canada’s oldest national park, established in 1885. Located in Alberta‘s Rocky Mountains, 110–180 kilometres west of Calgary, Banff encompasses 6,641 square kilometres of mountainous terrain, with many glaciers and ice fields, dense coniferous forest, and alpine landscapes.

Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are widely considered the most beautiful corners of the Banff National Park, but their popularity means they can get busy with nature-loving sightseers.

Moraine Lake is a glacial lake located in the Ten Peaks Valley, 14 km from the village of Lake Louise and at an elevation of about 1,885 meters.

Glacier-fed, its brilliant blue-green colour is a result of light refracting off the rock flour (fine particles of rock) in the glacier run-off which flows into the lake, does not begin to melt until June. Water levels, and its vibrant colour, peak in late June.
